What brings you to Follett?
I'm an independent student. Once I noticed a two volume set of The Encyclopedia of Management, behind the check out counter of the public library. In it, I found a little blurb on Mary Follett. I was attracted to her approach to management, and her political science background. That started me on research, and it has been 20 years.

Woman on Currency

Hi everyone,

I used to chat a lot with Albie. I've been in this network a long time. She suggested I run this by the group. I recently read the forum posting that said how eerie it was to see MPF's picture come up with only that one of Bernard Bosanquet. I may be quiet but I don't give up on my interest in Mary Parker Follett. Wouldn't it be great seeing that photo if it was on U.S. currency?

Jeff, my mother grew up in Montclair, NJ, neighbors of Lillian Gilbreth, author of Cheaper by the Dozen and a management consultant to businesses. Surely someone whom Follett would have know from conferences and such. So, what a lovely stream of experiences from that book to the present. Now, what do you think Follett would have thought of the post office, had she chosen to look over its management style and philosophy! She did study to telephone system of her day.

Hello Jeff, I am happy you enjoyed reading my quotes.

I was interested in going to your 'links' but there is nothing to click on. Did you forget to add them, or, what's more likely is there something that I don't understand?

Hello Jeff: what exactly do you like about Emerson? By the way, he's one of the most often mis-quoted Americans. I think that even Reagan qoted him on an occasion or two.

I cannot say that I read my way through Emerson either.

However, I can see how he would have been influenced by Fichte.

I like Emerson because he so clearly expresses the point of view that is in opposition to the current "scientific" materialistic perspective named so aptly as the "night view" by Fichte. http://www.pacificsites.com/~bibiras/TheNightVewFrame1Source1.htm

I am not sure of this but I imagine that MPF was somehow connected to this very same tradition--American idealism, maybe?

Yes, Jeff, it's proprietary but they are very open source. Glenda is a modern day MPF and the worked is based out of complexity/chaos theory + the social sciences. They also give the opportunity to do value-for-value exchanges. You pay a portion of the cost and then you do work for the Institute to pay off the rest. I know some people who have paid $1000 and worked off $4000, I paid $3000 and worked helping them with the design of the new blended learning format to pay off the rest. This network is doing the systems changing work - in schools, gov't, NGOs and businesses. If you don't want to do the training, but want to learn more about the thinking, check out their recent book printed by Stanford Press - Adaptive Action: Leveraging Uncertainty in Your Organization. Or check out their tools at www.wiki.hsdinstitute.org. or www.adaptiveaction.org to download tools. OR join one of the free webinars - the next one is Dec.3rd. on the wiki go to "Worldwide Conversations- 2013" - they also have all past webinars recorded their for your viewing - all free. They are mostly dedicated to the work happening. Let me know what other questions you have. Thanks for asking!

Also, I see you are from CA - HSD Institute is working heavily in the Cuppertino School District teaching all the Administrators and I believe the teachers about human systems dynamics. They are using it in their work and also with the students. Very exciting!

Good day,
I picked interest in you after going through your short profile and demanding it is necessary for me to write to you immediately. I have something very important to discuss with you, but I found it difficult to express myself here, since it's a public site.Could you please get back to me on (ronmorri01@gmail.com) for full details.
Best regards,
Ronald Morris.
