The Mary Parker Follett Network

Unity, not uniformity, must be our aim. - MPF

Hi Folks - As Follett fans, you probably need no convincing that we are (as ever) in great need of the insights that Follett offered in The New State. People are focusing on how to save their parties, how to "resist" what Trump might do, while continuing to ignore the fact highlighted by Follett that we need to learn democracy. People fear Trump but had no problem with party rule, no problem with voting being held up as the primary civic act. The groundwork for our situation was laid a long time ago; the groundwork was not laid for avoiding it. A perennial, perpetual opportunity.

It is a good idea to start 're-inventing' democracy with Follett. Many discussions she started, also together with for example Dewey, are very relevant today. It offers an opportunity to go back to some roots of our institutions, having developed in the early 1920's. The problem that Follett was afraid of then become more dominant today!
